If you are using a UD-owned computer, the Cisco Secure Client (versions prior to July 1, 2025 may be named Cisco AnyConnect) client should be installed on your machine.
If you are using a personal machine and need to utilize the VPN, you can download it for free from UDeploy.
To use the VPN, you will need to have two-factor authentication enabled.
Open the VPN
If you’re on Windows…
- Select the Windows Start Menu.
- in the search bar, type Cisco.
- Select Cisco Secure. If you have Cisco Anyconnect on your machine, it will upgrade as a part of this process.
If you’re on Mac…
- Open Finder and select the Applications folder.
- Locate the Cisco folder.
Once you’ve located the Cisco Secure Client…
- Launch the Application
- Choose Connect
- Enter your UD username and password.
Your Second Password will be a two-factor authentication code. You usually will get this code when logging into systems like Canvas or HR-related systems.- If you use voice or text to receive your code you must first enter one of the following:
- voice1 in the Second Password and press OK field to receive a call with your code
- sms1 in the Second Password field and press OK to receive a text with your code
*You may see a notice saying “login failed” when you trigger the code to be sent. This is normal. Once you get your code, you can enter it as normal with your credentials.
- If you use Google Authenticator or any other app to get your code, open the app as normal to obtain your code.
- If you use voice or text to receive your code you must first enter one of the following:
- Once you receive your code, enter it into the Second password field with your other credentials and press OK
- If there are updates pending, the VPN Client will take this time to upgrade the client. In most cases, this is less than 5 minutes.
- The Secure client will display a green check when connected.
Now that you’re connected, you should be able to use UD resources such as remote desktop, and HR systems as normal.
