Some users have recently reported after having upgraded their computers from Windows 10 to 11, they’ve been unable to open both PNG and JPG files.

Should this issue occur, we recommend first trying the following steps:

  1. Right click on the file you’re encountering difficulty with.
  2. From the menu that appears, select “Open with“, and then “Choose another app
The context menu on Windows 11, with the Open with submenu open, and Choose another app selected.
  3. A new menu will appear, allowing you to select an app. Click once on “Photos” (or your app of choice) and select “Always“.
The "select an app to open this .jpg file" menu is open with "Photos" app selected and both the "Always" and "Just Once" buttons available.
  4. You may need to repeat this for each of the following file types: JPG, PNG, BMP
