Access to network drives is generally configured to be set up when a computer is logged on to and should be persistent. If, for some reason, a shared drive’s mapping has been lost, it can be reconnected using the following instructions.
For some shares, you may need to be connected to the University of Delaware’s network on site, or via VPN.
You will need to know the path to the shared drive in question.

Before you begin: When using a computer off-campus, You must first create a connection using the Cisco AnyConnect VPN.

Windows
On a Windows computer, you can map a drive for easy access, and treat it like another hard drive on the computer.
- Open a new file explorer window using the folder icon
on your start bar and navigate to “This PC” using the menu on the left. - In the “This PC” window, click the “Computer” Tab.
- Click on the “Map network drive” button.
- In the “Drive” pop-up menu, select a letter. You may choose any available letter, so long as it is not currently in use.
- 5. In the “Folder” field, type the location provided by the TechDeck for your network drive value. It will look something like this:
\\sample.network.com\Share - If you want to reconnect to this drive every time you start your computer, you may enable “Reconnect at logon”.
- If you’re connecting to the network drive from a location other than your own office, disable (remove the check mark from) the “Reconnect at logon” option.
- If you’re connecting to the network drive from a location other than your own office, disable (remove the check mark from) the “Reconnect at logon” option.
- You may be prompted to provide your credentials to continue connecting or you may have been provided an alternative username for this share.
- When connected the drive will show up under Network Locations.
MacOS
On a Mac, you can add access to a shared drive by creating a SMB network connection.
- From Finder, select “Go” and choose “Connect to Server“
- In the Server Address field, the correct format is as follows:
smb://sample.network.com/Sharesmb://sample.network.com/Share
- You may be prompted to log in with your given username and password.
